What warms my heart? A peaceful birth.

I'm hoping for another one of these in July. ;-)

Mir was born at home March 1, 2000. In this photo, she was "between worlds." As she emerged from the water, the midwife put the cap on her head to conserve her body heat and her daddy snapped this photo. She has yet to draw her first breath. (Though she did just moments after this photo was taken.) She's my big, almost-seven year old now. She was the sunniest baby, and remains a happy little girl. See earlier  entries for some examples of her antics.

And does my little Pisces love the water? Oh yes, she does. :-)

  1. gorgeous baby (and mama) and beautiful photograph. I feel the same way – a peaceful birth IS heartwarming. My son (now age 3 1/2) was born at home in July 2003. He is the sweetest, most peaceful, easy-going child. I believe a peaceful birth makes all the difference. I'm adding you to my neighborhood! Yay!xoxoLara

  3. I think I'd have been too terrified mine would drown! (Okay, maybe not the Pisces, but the Virgo for sure…) Still, this is a convincing – and heartwarming, for sure – photo! She looks like she's waking from a dream, and about to look over at you and say "Hi, Mama." So wise and thoughtful, that expression on her face.

  5. Beautiful to see the picture.
    I have had only one water birth (but three vbacs). I think my favorite part was the baby floating up to me and onto my chest. I wish I had better pictures (like yours), but one is posted on my blog.
