Pregnancy dementia and… oink
Lately, I'm starting to feel like a hazard to myself.
I have burned my hands so much when cooking in recent weeks. I think it's totally pregnancy dementia. One night Scott was making pork chops (the thick loin kind yummy) and while he took them off the grill, I was serving up the sides. Well, the pork wasn't done, so he put them back out and I put the bowls in the oven to keep warm.
Of COURSE, silly reader, I used a potholder to remove them from the oven. But then just a few moments later I apparently forgot how hot they were, grabbed one of the bowls to move it and burned the CRAP out of my fingertips. I even let the F word fly. Sigh.
Speaking of absentminded: I ran a red light today. All the kids in the car, talking with them about laundry, sun visor down (which I theorize blocked my visibility just enough – otherwise… WTF??) and next thing I know I'm blowing through the intersection about 50 mph, right by all the cars stacked up in the other lane waiting for the light. How lucky were we that there was no oncoming traffic???? It's a pretty busy suburban intersection, but relative to those around it, more residential and not quite as busy on that particular cross street thank GOD. Lucky lucky lucky. Shook me up, though, to think I could even make such a potentially deadly error.
On a lighter note, and on the topic of food: The other night, Scott brought home a cherry pudding ring cake thing from Safeway. OMG to die for. Yesterday I found leftovers (nearly half the cake was left) on top of the fridge and cut myself a piece. It was so good I went back for seconds – AND ATE ALL THE REST OF IT.
I was mildly horrified at myself! And it only occurred to me afterwards that maybe Scott wanted to have some more and hid it on the fridge that way for that reason.
I felt bad.
I'll have to buy another one to make it up to him.
Happily, Scott was amused (not to mention incredulous) when he found out. He couldn't believe I did that! Normally I'm not quite that hot for sweets – and it was a LOT of cake!
At first he was a little annoyed because he thought the kids and I had eaten it – i.e., I gave it to everyone else and didn't even save him a slice. But when I said the only other person who got any was Jake, then he thought it was funny. In fact, Mir saw me eating it and asked for a piece. And I said, "Mmrphff, mmmmm, no, gobble gobble oink."
