QotD: Take That, Writer’s Block!
How do you beat writer’s block?
Submitted by marvel is my pen name.
I am a born editor. I always get writer’s block when the screen is blank – especially when I’m writing an article or promotional copy (or any other writing I’m actually paid to do). So my goal is to get words, any relevant words onto the page by taking a casual brain dump on the topic.
My favorite trick to make that happen is to pretend I’m writing a blog entry or an email to friends. The words always seem to flow when I’m in that mode.
Then I have the words to work with. Now I can go into my more natural editing mode and clean it up, make the piece work for its audience.
QotD: Call The Fashion Police
You must have been a fashion victim at least once in your life. What hideous blunder did you commit?
Submitted by Tina.
I can plead only that "everyone else was doing it!" I think the now-vintage Scooby Doo lunch box makes up for a LOT, though!
Not that I haven't made any other fashion blunders since (I was a teen of the 80s – I wore stirrup pants for heaven's sake!), I just haven't carefully preserved those images for posterity.
QotD: In-Flight Entertainment
How do you pass the time during a flight? What do you bring in your carry-on?
I always take a book and usually also a magazine or two (something fluffy like People or US). Sometimes I do puzzles or sudoku. Sometimes I knit. Every once in a blue moon, I have a fun conversation with one of my seat mates.
Sometimes I watch the in-flight movie – but after my last experience, I doubt I ever will again. When I flew to Ohio earlier this month, I watched The Queen on the east-bound flight. I was really looking forward to that movie! But the audio just sucked 100% – and since no subtitles, I felt like I missed out on a lot of the nuances. I think I liked the movie, but I sure didn't enjoy the experience one bit.
I also always have lip balm, hand sanitizer, a small tube of hand lotion plus some sudafed if I'm even the tiniest bit congested (ear pain – OUCH). Emergency snack provisions. Tissues.
QotD: It was Kismet
How did you meet your current, or most recent, significant other?
For our first date, my boy suggested we meet at the Phoenix Zoo. And so we did one Sunday morning in February (February mornings in Phoenix are lovely, by the way).
It was a perfect, perfect location for a first date. We could stroll, we could sit and talk – it was easy to fill those inevitable awkward pauses observing bald eagles or giraffes or ostriches.
About a month later we met up there again with the kids for their first meeting.
